Tips for finding housing

*Please be aware that housing scams are common. Do not give away any personal information or put down a deposit before verifying that the rental unit is legitimate. If you are going to see a place, always bring someone with you and try to verify the property owner/manager's identity beforehand.

Tips:

  • Word-of-mouth & community connections are sometimes the best places to find an 'ohana cottage (small private unit separate from the main house on a property)

  • Flyers for housing can be posted at community grocery stores, rec centers, cafes, etc.

Know your rights:

Things to Consider in Finding a Place to Live:

  • Accessibility to transportation/commute time

  • Noise/neighborhood dynamic

  • Weather

  • Access to essentials (grocery stores, medical care, etc.)

  • Access to amenities (restaurants, gym, etc.)

  • Utilities /Internet speed

  • Laundry access

  • Furnished/unfurnished
